Formed in 1981 during the UK Psychedelic Revival and releasing their first Single in 1982 Doctor & The Medics are assumed by many as a 'One Hit Wonder' Novelty Band, solely as a result of them covering Norman Greenbaum's Spirit In The Sky in 1986 which surprised the band as much as it surprised the unsuspecting British Public. In actual fact this couldn't be further from the truth as during the 1980's they were arguably one of THE best live acts in the UK and anyone who witnessed them live during this period could attest to this bold claim. If you weren't there and you missed the whole of the 1980's then at the very least track down the Live At Alice In Wonderland White Label 7" EP as it does a reasonable job of capturing their live sound, you just won't be able to see everyone laying on the floor with their legs in the air :-) |
Are you man or Insect ? |
I'll make it real easy for you, here's an (audio only) YouTube link....turn it up and enjoy. A Medics gig was always a wild experience, there were nearly always surprises (full frontal nudity if you were at the Decca Warehouse Mystery Trip) and if you were 'doing the right thing' you always went home with dirty clothes after laying on a filthy venue floor. |
