Liquid Vision |
Hey there Pooterland, I was in the local electronic scene back in college, and I thought it was lacking in production value, so I started throwing some shows with some buddies and eventually moved onto lighting and video. Eventually I wanted to start making my own content, and that's how I discovered my passion for liquid light shows. My first influence was Liquid Light Lab, I learned a lot about liquids from watching his work, and I am captivated by the way he mixes media. Mad Alchemy was my second big influence. They showed me that it was possible to what we do on a larger scale. I've worked with several local North Carolina bands and DJs over the years, as well as a few touring act, but I was usually booked by the promoter and not the acts in those instances. The most notable acts that I've worked with directly and consecutively includes Lazaris Pit, Idlewild South, Last Fair Deal, Doctor Ocular, and Arson Daily. There's a lot of local North Carolina video and lighting artists that I've had the pleasure to work alongside and learn from. De Ja View, Thefacesblur, Life is Art Studios Sacramental Studios, Truffalatrees, Tenorless, and Videometry are a few. I'm sure I'm leaving someone out and I'm sorry if you're reading this now! I have had friends come and help me with live shows periodically, and some more often than others, but the work and planning behind the show is all done by myself When I was working the first How We Chill music and arts festival in Virginia, some of the family of the land owner asked me if I could project a bug on the screen. On Saturday night he brought me a collection he had gathered all weekend for me to put on the projector screen. A lot of them worked great but I wouldn't touch the plates when he put a live centipede on them haha. I started with DMX lights and digital projectors. I used software for the lights, and mostly VJ loops I found off the internet for the visuals at first. Then I got an overhead from the high school my Mom worked at and that started my liquid light show career. Now I have several overhead projectors, an oil wheel projectors, two high lumen digital projectors and one short throw projector. I also use some VJ softwares like Resolume, Touch Designer, Lumen, and Synesthesia. I'm always on the hunt for better glass. I've tried using prisms and lasers for lumia effects but I'm still perfecting it. I am currently trying to find a good blend of live liquid visuals with custom digital animations. I still have the original overhead and oil wheel projector. I added a 3M 9550 to my analog collection. I started out with an Epson 3220 for my digital projectors. Now I have a Epson G5150, a BenQ MW 820ST, and an NEC PA550W. Jacob - The Liquid Vision Light Show - August 2020 |
