In spite of the last minute venue change Inner City Unit made a triumphant return following the succesful Hawkestra gia at London’s Astoria.
The band is currently an eight piece, plus the fabulous ‘exotic dancer’ Angie so the stage got a bit crowded at times as they treated an ecstatic crowd to their unique blend of Punk, Garage-Psych, Ska, Space Rock, Jazz, Soul, Rockabilly, Metal and even a bit of ‘Kylie’ :-)
Highlights included the opening ‘Bones Of Elvis’ as the Mighty Thunder Rider made a dramatic entrance, Steve Pond’s brilliant rendition of ‘Sids Song’, an ultra-heavy ‘Cars Eat With Autoface’, ‘Raj Neesh’, ‘Little Black Egg’, ‘Soliary Astrid’ and a manic version of ‘Watching The Grass Grow’.
A backdrop was provided by a light show including some work by the late, great Barney Bubbles.
An excellent gig and if you missed it, make sure to look out for ICU at Dingwalls in the New Year.
