Ghost House

Ghost House is currently based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, and is the solo project of Lindsey Rewuski.

The name Ghost House implies the idea of spectral images, and is inspired by the house I grew up in.

I first became interested, primarily through reading stories when I was a teen about the Pranksters and shows at the Fillmore East, and became fascinated with the idea of light as an artistic device, and being used as another instrument in a band.

Before my first dip into liquids, I was creating experimental film and installations and was asked to create tour visuals for a friends band. This was primarily stop motion, using flower petals to create moving mandalas, and for one song, I incorporated liquid lights. After this show, another band asked me to create visuals for them, and off I went, buying gear, experimenting, and researching online like crazy.

My first live light show was for my partner - ambient artist Chad Munson in 2014.

We opened for Le Révélateur at a local festival called MoSoFest. I used a single overhead projector (Elmo 9080), plates, and moire effects. From this, Chad and I created a collaborative A/V performance called Surface Tension, and have toured it together since. I have also done visuals with many local and touring bands such as The Besnard Lakes, Heinbach, Adolyne, Radiation Flowers, Close Talker, Cold Specks, Clinker, Jon Vaughn, Weaves, and many more.

Having never seen a live show with visuals before, I just played with everything I could get my hands on, and spent time developing a unique show that uses flexible grids, glass plates, ’squishies’ (my own invention, due to lack of access to glass), and a more minimal approach to shows.

My visuals tend to look both organic and computer generated, although, to date, I do not use any mixing software.

After my first show, another artist introduced me to the Lightshow Preservation Society on Facebook, and the admins and members there have been especially helpful in providing support and advice - especially Steve from Liquid Light Lab, who helped me make the switch to using an Elmo 500 document camera, which is currently a main tool for performing now, especially as I can connect it to OBS software for today’s online Covid concerts.

Most recently, I have been collecting slide projectors and now have an army of 10 ‘good’ ones. During quarantine, I’ve also been hand-painting hundreds of slides, and look forward to using these in conjunction with the Lumia machines that I’ve also been building, when live shows start happening again.

To date I've worked solo, however I would LOVE to meet up and work with others, and am very willing to travel once restrictions allow.
